Starting in late 2004 and for about a year, we had this pudgy,
grey visitor around Skeena Pacific. 'Melba' enjoyed getting outside
and often used the rail line as her walkway around the back yard.
She never did get used to the trains, however. Here she watches
closely as Alf pulls past with the Tourist Extra. I wonder
what the tourists thought.....
By the way, don't email. Melba is
alive and well with her 'parents' in Peachland.
July was the month when we finally constructed the new Meziadin
Viaduct. This full-width bridge replaced the two single spans giving
greater safety fo crews who needed to do train inspections and the
like, during the stop at Meziadin.
This view show the concrete 'box' structure that gives the
bridge amazing strength and durability. It is based on designs used
for the Skytrain Transit line used in Vancouver, BC, but is much
more substantial in construction.
Tracks actually 'float' in the ballast so that potentially
damaging vibration is not transmitted into the bridge structure. The
crews even got wire-line guard rails.
