I wasn't sure whether to include this page here, or in the Tech
Pages, but here goes anyway. You may have noticed a change in the
photographs in these pages. In mid-2004, I moved into digital
photography. Much of this site has pictures scanned from regular
photos or taken from the digital copies supplied by my film
processor. |
I actually bought two cameras. One a Canon 6.1mp 300D or Digital
Rebel to replace my Canon single lens reflex (SLR) and a smaller,
compact camera. It, too is a Canon. A 5.0mp A95 with a 3x optical
zoom. One of the advantages of the smaller camera is being able to
get right down to my 5 foot six inch height in 1/29th scale,
resulting in a great trackside feel. It also has a movie setting,
just for the fun of it. |

The advantage with the SLR is that all my previous EOS lenses,
off-camera flash and other equipment work seamlessly and result in
rich detail, almost infinite control and very good colour. The Cano
A95 is also an excellent camera in that it has all the manual
over-ride features as well as presets, for those moments when you
want the snapshot. |
Along with the macro focus and movie setting, the smaller
Canon has a view-screen that swivels allowing you to get right down
at ground level with crawling on your belly, important to those of
us 'nearly' Seniors. The disadvantage is the shutter delay, which
can be annoying and is not present with the SLR. The truth is,
though, for model railways, the little camera is best. It's that
belly-crawl thing...... |
