    | The North Kalum yard has never been a picturesque location. Just a long,
useful rail yard, mostly hidden from view by a gazebo, wherein our hot tub
resides. In fact, so lacking of pictures that I had to go back to 2006 for a
"Before" picture. Yes, before we decided to sell the hot tub. And so, as
Dee's village took shape and Summer was about to be enjoyed we decided to
sell the hot tub, which, for a variety of reasons, we has seldom used in the
last 24 months. We advertised it briefly and almost instantaneously the darn
thing sold. Now we had to make it available to move. The only way out is to
remove one wall of the gazebo and, oh yes, a section of fence across the
other side of North Kalum yard. A so I removed the yard and the all the
track along the fence. | |

	 | All the track was removed and the gravel had to be lowered to allow the new
owner of the hot tub to get a pallet-jack in place to get the tub out. Rule
Number One (you can always run a train at the end of the day) was enforced
and made possible by the loop of track in the foreground. It connected track
coming off the Tseax trestle around under some modestly-pruned bushes and
back into the Hazelton Sub. |
    | Until you tear something apart, you often forget just how much work went
into locating it in the first place. North Kalum was where the original
first tracks for Skeena Pacific had been laid. The amount of track and wire
involved is really quite amazing. It had been torn up previously (see
the details) and changes were made that time. This time, too.
Taken as an opportunity, the yard was redesigned. Much like the real yard at
Terrace, it is long and narrow, with a mainline by-pass track. | |

	 | It's been moved left (in this picture) to give better separation from
the return line that runs along the fence. There is also room for expansion,
some buildings, beautification or all of the above. The track is still only
laid onto the sub-base of gravel and will need a lot of ballasting.
Yes, I took out the wye. I have mixed feelings about this, but it was
interfering with work in the garden, getting stepped-on and otherwise being
a problem. I haven't given up on this yet, just need time to think it over. |
