Some people think that Skeena Pacific crews are in old
equipment, but that's far from the truth. SP's hacks have
been rebuilt from the wheels up, are still wood-clad, but with 6
inch foam-filled walls and full steel safety frames. The crews love them. On the trip from
the "wet-coast" into a northern Winter climate, downward
temperature changes can exceed 50 degrees Celsius,
but they never sweat. Try that with a steel caboose! |
After a careful review of grades and tonnage, it was
determined that longer trains could be hauled if certain
track deficiencies could be remedied. Dee's Junction
is a "handover" yard whose tracks were not originally of
sufficient length. This is the recent extension at the north
end entrance to Dee's. |
